International Society Of Arboriculture
Any person with a pickup truck and a chain saw can call themselves an arborist but not just anyone can say they are an ISA (International Society Of Arboriculture) Certified Arborist. An arborist is anyone who works in the tree service industry; however they are not required to have any education, pass an exam or prove their knowledge of tree care in any way.
ISA Certified Arborists are individuals who have achieved a high skill level of knowledge in the art and science of tree care with a minimum of three years of experience in the industry and have passed a comprehensive examination put together by the International Society of Arboriculture. They are also required to continue their education in order to maintain their certification, ensuring their knowledge is updated on the latest arboriculture techniques. The ISA Arborist Certification is a non-governmental voluntary process that operates without mandate of law. It is an internal self-regulating device administered by the International Society of Arboriculture, and therefore, cannot guarantee or assure the quality of performance. Certification provides a measurable assessment of an individual's knowledge and competence required to provide proper tree care.
